Although I’m going to do my best, words aren’t going to paint an adequate picture of how much I enjoyed this month. From church services to painting a clinic during outreach to dance parties to football games, I have loved every minute of my time here. Upon our arrival at Beacon of Hope, we were immediately welcomed into the homes and hearts of everyone here. Angie and her family have been incredibly hospitable and loving, and I feel that the boys have welcomed me as their own sister and friend, even though they knew I would only be here for a few weeks. I was so thankful for the opportunity to be involved with interviewing the boys for videos and for updated information for the sponsorship program. I really loved this because I was able to get a quick glance into their lives—their pasts, their goals, and their dreams for the future. Spending a month here has allowed me to completely fall in love with the ministry at Beacon of Hope. The young men that are here are incredible—they are joyful, servant hearted, hard workers, and loving. I have no doubt that the lessons learned and seeds planted here will continue to grow and harvest in the years to come. God has done, is doing, and will continue to do huge things to change Mozambique through this ministry. Thank you so much for supporting Angie and Beacon of Hope! –Grace Hartmann, World Racer 2012

I have been greatly blessed by my time here at Beacon of hope. When I first heard we would be working with a ministry for young men I was slightly hesitant. I did not know what to expect considering I had never been a part of a ministry to just young men before, little did I know how truly amazing these young men of God are. From the first day spent gardening with them I was captured by their joy and sincerity. Never before have I met such a joyful, God honoring group of young men, and I know that Beacon of Hope is the reason why these young men are so amazing. Their love for the Lord is evident in everything they do, the way they respect and protect women is remarkable, and their work ethic is incredible. It is obvious to see that Beacon of Hope is truly preparing these men to be the future leaders of Mozambique. I have worked with many amazing ministries while on the race, but I can confidently say that my time spent at Beacon of Hope has been the most rewarding. God’s presence is very evident in the way that Angie and the young men of Beacon of Hope live their lives. Thank you for supporting the good work that is being done here at Beacon of Hope! – Marie McCollum, World Race 2012
